The Journey of a Lifetime!

This Lenten Season at Carrollton First UMC we are going to embark on our own Amazing Race to the Cross. As we remember all that Jesus has done and continues to do for us, we will explore some of the stories from his ministry and do our best to live our faith boldly and
with passion!

 

Often it is easier to embark on this kind of quest with others to encourage us and help us out, so you are encouraged to join the race with a team of family and friends.

 

We will have a friendly competition to add to the fun and excitement of growing our faith during Lent.

How it will work:

Teams must be at least 2 people and not more than 8. All ages are welcome and encouraged to participate! Name your team and design a poster (8.5x11) with your team name to hang in the Sanctuary/Worship Space. Teams will have several opportunities to earn points. We will give an update on points each week until Easter!

Guess the story:
Each week there will be clues to help you guess which story will be the theme for the upcoming Sunday. Clues will be found in the weekly bulletin, on the church website
www.carrolltonfirstumc.org, and on the CFUMC Facebook page. When you think you know the story, email Pastor Kimberly at pastorkimberly@carrolltonfirstumc.org. (only e-mails will be accepted) The first team that guesses the story correctly will earn 1,000 points! Each additional team that guesses correctly will earn 500 points.

(For In-Person Worshippers)

  • Attending worship services (must complete attendance card) -250

  • Bringing someone to church (must complete attendance card) - 300 per guest

  • Volunteering at a mission – 300

  • Bringing a food donation for Urban Mission - 250

  • Attending a small group study during Lent (at least 1 team member must attend at least 3x – must be same team member each time) - 250

  • Reading Scripture in worship - 200

  • Greeting for Sunday morning – 100

  • Your team includes people from more than one family - 300

  • Creating a team poster - 300

  • Doing a mission as a whole team - 350

  • Volunteering in worship (benediction, etc.) - 150

  • Attending Ash Wednesday service - 150

  • Attending Holy Week Services - 150 per service

  • Being at church every Sunday during Lent - 350

(For Online Worshippers ONLY)

  • Attending worship (must complete attendance form on the website (carrolltonfirstumc.org/forms) -250

  • Bringing someone to church (must complete attendance form on the website) - 300 per guest

  • Volunteering at a mission – 300

  • Bringing a food donation or making a monetary donation to the Urban Mission- 250

  • Share a favorite Scripture with us via email: (communications@carrolltonfirstumc.org) - 200

  • Commenting to others on an online worship service – 100

  • Your team includes people from more than one family - 300

  • Creating a team poster (email to communications@carrolltonfirstumc.org - 300

  • Doing a mission as a whole team - 350

  • Leaving a "welcome to worship" comment on the online church service - 150

  • Share what Ash Wednesday means to you via email to communications@carrolltonfirstumc.org - 150

What is lent?

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday.
Historically, Lent began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by converts, and then became a time for penance by all Christians. This season is a time to look closely at our spiritual journey and our relationship with Jesus Christ. During Lent we prepare our hearts to walk with Jesus to the cross and for the glorious celebration of Easter.
